Bambinart Gallery will hold a new exhibition, Emerging Artists 2015 ”ON CANVAS.”

In much the same way as living things have evolved by adapting to their environment, the arts have blossomed into multiple forms of expression through their interaction with society. For example, Kabuki is not just the continuation of a convention, it is the continuation of a tradition through repeated revolutions and the challenging of stereotypes. In the same way, even now, painting – which has had its existence questioned due to the fact that is confined to the two-dimensional - continues to explore its possibilities.

This exhibition is split into two parts, Part 1 and Part 2, and introduces 6 artists. The work of these young artists, who are all born between 1988 and 1990, calls to mind the Fauvism from the start of the 20th century or new expressionism from the 1970s, or is reminiscent of a Velázquez or a van Gogh due to the daring brushstrokes. Using techniques pioneered by illustrious masters (such as these) as their foundation, the heartfelt work presented here gives us both new perspectives and satisfies our curiosity towards life. This leads us to truly appreciate the infinite possibilities of the canvas.

Participating artists

■ Wakana Inoue
“I focus the work on one issue and build a clear story around that. By making the work in a positive form, it makes it easier for the body to absorb or take on board the issue.”
Born in 1989 in Aichi Prefecture. She graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 2015. Recipient of the Mirai Prize as part of TURNER AWARD 2013. She has participated mainly in the following group exhibitions, “Lucy’s Sky” (Gendai Heights, Tokyo) and “Nanameuewoaruku” (TURNER GALLERY, Tokyo).

■Yuki Ota
“I want to be able to breathe through a painting. To paint brushstrokes smoothly as though one is breathing in and out. To continue make sure of something that appears obvious by carefully tracing it out.”
Born in 1989 in Shizuoka Prefecture. She attended the Graduate school at Tokyo University of the Arts. She won TURNER Award 2011 and Tokyo Wonderwall 2014 prizes and participated in the following group exhibition, “A Contemporary Art Exhibition For Contemporary Art Students- Produced by Mr. X” (Kaikai Kiki Gallery, Hidari Zingaro, Tokyo).

■ Ryo Kawada
“There is no special meaning in asking what a particular motif in a picture is or who a particular person is. I only paint the “thing” or the “situation” that exists in front of me.”
Born in Niigata Prefecture in 1988. He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 2015. He is a recipient of a Tokyo Wonderwall 2014. In 2013, he was a recipient of the Turner Award – Future Prize and of the Tama Art Competition Tenmyoya Hisashi Prize. His main exhibitions include the solo exhibition “UROBOROS” at Bambinart Gallery, Tokyo).

■ Shinobu Hanazawa
“Things you can see, things you can’t, good and bad things, living things and dead things, affection and sadness and…flowers and…… rabbits and… ghosts. Including god and more…”
Born in 1989 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Studied at Tama Art University. She was a recipient of the Yoko Yamamoto Prize at the 2nd Saburo Miyamoto Memorial Drawing Grand Prix. In 2012, she participated in the Inagi-en Ceiling Painting Project. Bambinart will hold her first solo-exhibition in June, 2015.

■Yui Hayashi
“The sense of infinity that suddenly visits us in our everyday is a unique point of time that stops the flow of time towards our own mortality. I want to express this moment as though it is something we can rewind or fast forward or pause.
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1989. She graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2013. Her main solo-exhibitions are “L’ESPOIR 2015” (Ginza Suruga-Dai Gallery, Tokyo), “ANIMA/ANIMUS” (Mizenka Gallery, Tokyo) and she also participated in the “Art Path” group exhibition (Tokyo University of the Arts, Toride Campus, Ibaraki).

■ Kei Makimoto
“Interpreting something strongly even if it is something transient that is no longer with us, or even if it is a misperception. I want to know that something that has been found. I wanted to understand it. That thought – is what I express in my work.”
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1990. Graduated from Tama Art University. She participated in the group exhibition “Hajime ha Shiro de” (Shimo-Kita Art Space, Tokyo).
