Yuuki Kikuura

Bambinart Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Yuuki Kikuura from June 6 to June 24, 2012.

Born in 1985, Kikuura entered Tokyo University of Arts in 2005, studied abroad in China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2010, and finished graduate studies at Tokyo University of Arts (Sakaguchi seminar) this March.

She has shown her essences in her student years, exhibiting paintings as well as installations in various group shows and projects. This show will be her first solo exhibition where Kikuura will exhibit her most recent paintings.

Kikuura mostly paints landscapes, but these places are stripped of geographical or historical context and recreated into purely visual images.

These images in themselves are meaningless but rather are ways of pointing out the fragility of memory or what makes us "feel". When one encounters a place or form that evokes a similar feeling of interest, one wonders: where does that feeling come from and does others feel that way as well? Also, there is the question of where the difference of perception arise.

Kikuura aims to approach these questions in her works as images of severed time, caught as moments, and she tries to capture what is in between these fractured time frames.

The visions that come from Kikuura's personal experiences while traveling or in daily life become imagined ones and find a common point once they eclipse with those of the viewer.
