Yu Kimachi

Bambinart Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition by Yu Kimachi from February 12 through march 6, 2011. Kimachi (b.1984 in Nagano prefectural) graduated from Tama Art University in 2008. She has been participating in numerous group exhibitions including the grand opening exhibition for 3331 Arts Chiyoda.

Kimachi has a fondness for animals, Buddhas and characters from Manga or fairy tales. As her love grows for these characters, she begins to find in them a certain aura of divinity.

Her canvases are populated with such divine characters as they mix, merge, and combine into half-man half-animal chimeras. These cartoon-like images carry with them a God-like dignity that almost transform them into surrealistic religious icons.

The title of this exhibition “Melting Pot” refers to a place where people from different races, countries, or social classes come and live together. The space will be constructed from images of Buddha statues and small temples, to visualize Kimachi's Buddhism-enfused interpretation of the world.
